New Blog Rules + Sonic Mania First Impressions

This is a two part blog. The first part is to reintroduce what I'm going to be doing with these blogs. I had lost interest in doing them, and I figure that a chance in perspective would do me some good. The second thing is: Sonic Mania finally came out on PC. Is it any good? Oh yes, it's amazing, but we'll get to that in a moment.

Blog rules are as follows. No more angry rants, no more ranting in general, just talking about games, talking about game contents, specific guidelines for MMO and multiplayer play, and stuff like that. Calm, casual, good talks, and if I have something to profess that has been bothering me, I'll put out a warning that says that it might get a little bit salty. Sound good? Good. Let's get to work.

On Sonic Mania and it being good? It is very, very good. I have only gotten five stages in, haven't experienced the rest that this game has to offer just yet so I can't exactly write a review. But my first impressions are very, very good. This game is great, and if you haven't gotten it yet but loved the classic games, you'll feel right at home here. This game plays like a supremely well designed classic Sonic game in every sense. There are a few cheap deaths here and there still, but what fun is a classic game if the game doesn't punish you for not having decent reactions and paying attention to what the level is doing?

The music is glorious and the levels are, without spoiling too much, going to be that great treat that fans of the classic gameplay are going to adore. If you weren't a fan of the classics, you might not get into this as much, but then who knows? This game might be the game that inspires people who thought they weren't going to like the classics to now go back and play those great games and see for themselves if they did still like them. It's well animated, well designed, does most of its storytelling with simple visual cues, and has a general good feeling to it.

It's hard, though, be forewarned. It matches the difficulty and difficulty scaling of the original games for a good bit. I've still yet to finish and complete it, but once I do, I'll be sure to talk all about it in a review and give it the credit it deserves. The review will have plenty of spoilers so I have things to talk about, so if you're tuning in now and don't want to spoil yourself too much on Sonic Mania, please buy it. It's only $20 on Steam or on most any other version so it won't break the bank like most AAA titles do. So, give it some serious consideration in the meantime.
