Cannot preorder a Nintendo Switch - Personal Rant

As a quick note: This is more of me culminating my thoughts of everything that kind of went on as a reaction to the fact that I couldn't preorder it. It's a rant, nothing more, and not exactly meaningful. If you're interested anyway, go right ahead, just be warned that it's...not great quality nor do I intend to try and make it that.

So I found out yesterday that I couldn't preorder a Nintendo Switch, basically because of the fact that they don't have the ability to hand one out because they only got a limited number of copies. This is Nintendo's new game, isn't it? It was one thing when it was the Amiibos, the Nintendo Gamecube Controller USB Adapter, and other small things: but a console? This is a serious issue if they don 't get extras out almost right away...if they have high demand then they should be supplying it, not denying their customer base their ability to actually preorder their system. This isn't a small thing we're talking about here.

This is incredibly frustrating because I was looking forward to picking this thing up as soon as it became available. I guess that quite a few other people are as well, which makes sense, but for the preorders to be out and for there not to potentially be another set of Nintendo Switches that I could get past the preorder just doesn't sit right with me. It's something that Nintendo has BEEN doing and it's frustrating. I wanted Amiibos when they came out, couldn't find the ones I wanted...really wanted a Gamecube Controller Adapter for Super Smash Bros. 4, couldn't find any for a long time thanks to them constantly being out of stock for months after the tech debuted...and now the Nintendo Switch is suffering a "lack of product" sort of story again for the preorders?

This is all probably just a big frustrated rant for no reason, and the "moral of the story" is "why preorder something? Just pick it up when you feel like it, don't bother preordering it because you don't know if you're going to like it". Thing is, if I feel that I am going to really want it and that I am definitely going to play it, why shouldn't I bother going for it? There have been times that games have been bad and gamers have suffered for preordering, like Sonic has done and other franchises have done to me before even coming from Nintendo...but in this instance, it's a console that I know I'm going to get at some point anyway. I've owned every Nintendo console (sans the NES, wasn't old enough to "own" one or experience one at all) and I don't think I particularly want to stop the train here. I've always liked Nintendo's work, despite what others may think/say about that, and I'd rather keep it that way.

Anyway, that has nothing to do with the added frustration thing, it's just something that I felt like bringing up because it's something that crossed my mind when I was thinking about the fact that I couldn't preorder it. I was frustrated, but it's really no big deal in the end. I'll just walk into Gamestop on March 3, 2017 and see if they have an extra one, as the man at the counter was courteous enough to tell me. If they don't, at least I preordered Breath of the Wild for Switch, so I have a game to play the moment the Switch becomes available...

Why is "streamlining" games a bad thing? - Personal Rant

A complaint wandering about the MMO side of gaming is that such games are becoming "too streamlined" to be fun. Well, how is this meant? That's where it gets tricky to talk about, because lots of MMO's have done streamlining to their benefit. Others have fallen from grace in the eyes of many because of doing what they called "streamlining" the game. World of Warcraft, for instance, has become infamous for how it has toned down much of its content. But what does it mean to "streamline" something and how is it used for MMO gaming? To streamline something is to, in this instance, make an operation, machine or system more effective and efficient by implementing faster or simpler working methods. In most instances, we would think of this as a good thing. Having a game flow faster as a result of having to think less about the mechanics and instead focusing more on the actual gameplay seems to be a common popularity trope within games. Upcoming Reviews: Uncharted?

I'm contemplating reviewing the Uncharted series for this blog. I've played the 4th one recently, but because of the story nature of the games and the fact that they are highly acclaimed, what would I be adding by talking my opinions...? Then again...I've talked about other wildly popular games so far and they were games that had many people's opinions scribbled all over them, so what else would be new for the course? Expect a series of reviews to come out in a little while, depending on how inspired I feel to write them. I don't expect anyone to care, but...ya know.
