Females as lead protagonists in Star Wars? Say it ain't so!

The recent trailer for Battlefront 2 coming out shows off a female soldier as a potentially leading role for the story. The story seems to be functioning as some storytelling between Star Wars VI and VII, filling in gaps with gameplay story and quite possibly epic battles. However, we now have a female protagonist, again and so far it has gone that route. Jyn Erso, while amazing as a character, was a female leading protagonist and the story of the movie was primarily her story. Rei is a leading female protagonist and very well near being "Mary Sue" status, by my thoughts and the thoughts of my friends and some others that I have spoken with.

Now we have another female protagonist and she looks to be an elite soldier. Most everyone is already screaming about this, and I might even go so far as to say that it is entirely unwarranted to be screaming about female protagonists. It's a shift in thought that minorities and females have just as much representation as the white male leading protagonist. This is perhaps a bit far on the swing of the pendulum for representation, but it was going to happen one way or another as civil rights have swung to and fro. That's not to say I want every single movie to star an asian, a black man, a female, or something like that all of the time. I like a spread of representation, and so far, I haven't seen as many issues as people are wanting to call out. While Jyn Erso had her story in Rogue One, there was also a wide berth of other characters that all played just as important of a role in the story, including a handsome white CIS male, Donnie Yen and another Asian male who is his helper in the movie, and it even brings back James Earl Jones to star as Darth Vader. That's quite a bit of representation among the different people in the movie. If anything, one should be screaming about the continuous pressure of British English white CIS males being portrayed as evil without end in the Star Wars universe. Our neighbors across the pond, so to speak, are great people and don't deserve that reputation!!

Let's not forget as well that there is a new Han Solo movie coming out next year, after our brand new Star Wars Episode VIII. That's probably going to feature a white CIS male playing a fan favorite as well as whoever they can get to at least model the movements for Chewbacca. Sure, there's probably going to be some female interaction in there, but whether she is an important main character or a villain, or just a side character, will be hard to say. We haven't had a trailer yet, there probably won't be one until March/April of 2018, much like the trailer release for Star Wars Episode VIII.

On a more related note to the game, why is it so bad to have a shooter feature a female protagonist? Didn't we like Tomb Raider? How about Perfect Dark? Those are both shooters that feature female protagonists and I haven't heard the same number of complaints about the protagonist being female as I have heard/seen with Battlefront II's protagonist. Note, the new Battlefront II, not the old and perhaps even better one. We'll have to see how this one turns out, though, it could outdo the game and replace it as the tried and true Battlefront II...that's really my large issue. EA has a large red "do not go anywhere near this" sign stamped on it for me and I'm incredibly hesitant to buy anything EA. I will never preorder EA games, I will not buy them until I have seen enough to satisfy my desires to play the game for myself. That is the reason I'm worried about Battlefront II, not for the petty reason that the leading protagonist is a female.

Let's get over this and move on. Time to focus on what EA is really doing wrong, like releasing those stupid sports games with nothing new on them...or is it the right thing they're doing? They sure as hell are making tons of money off of them...
